Our Future

Our climate permits us to breed all year long.  We prefer to breed in the winter because it tends to enhance our conception rates, and autumn calving has our mother cows on rich summer grass during the last stages of their pregnancy. In addition, we are typically able to wean our fall calves straight onto good stout spring grasses.

In our part of the country it is possible to have green grass 10 months of the year, and with supplements, we are able to keep our cattle in good flesh all year long. We use a supplement program that has been designed specifically for our country and our seasons. We employ a combination of free choice molasses, free choice minerals and a range cube that is revised by season to complement our grasses. We grow winter forage and supplement year round so that our cattle have every opportunity to optimize their genetic potential.

 Our goal is to hold roughly 70 to 80 percent of our heifers until they are 14 to 15 months old before we decide whether they will stay and be bred to our bulls or be offered to others. The reverse is true of our bull calves, saving only 10 to 15% until they are 12 months old before we decide their fate and retaining less than 10% until they reach age two.

Our breeding stock are divided into 4 separate herds which are designed around our Herd Sires. Since we do our best to breed proven bloodlines, the majority of our pairings will involve blending our target bloodlines which go back to Gunman,The Shadow, Emperor, Phenomenon and Bail Jumper.   Thankfully other breeders have paved the way for us by demonstrating the consistency of these combinations over the years.
